✦ ABOUT A1 ACADEMY

About Us

Our Story

A1 Academy started as a passion project inspired by founder Nithasha Yakoob’s own children.

Nithasha holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Liverpool, UK, and brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a career spanning hedge funds, energy operations, and environmental commodities trading.

As a mom of children in gifted programs, Nithasha wanted to ensure they remained challenged, engaged, and happy while learning. What began as after-school enrichment for her own children soon expanded to friends, then friends of friends, and eventually families throughout the community.

Nithasha is also actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of nonprofit organizations dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for children from underserved communities. Her belief that every child deserves access to a strong education is at the heart of A1 Academy.

That same philosophy guides the Academy’s approach today. A1 Academy carefully selects tutors with strong academic and professional backgrounds, including engineering, advanced mathematics, and reading, who can teach, explain, challenge, and connect with each student.

Today, A1 Academy serves students from more than 10 neighborhood schools across Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Brickell, and South Miami, providing personalized instruction designed to help every child catch up, keep up, or level up.

What makes us different

Personalized Learning. Real Progress.

At A1 Academy, we believe tutoring should be personal, not one-size-fits-all.

Small Groups

Unlike large tutoring centers, we keep our groups intentionally small, with no more than 4 students per tutor per classroom, so every child receives individual attention.

Academically Focused

A1 Academy is engineer-owned and academically focused, with structured, paper-based learning and minimal distractions from screens.

Supportive Growth

We combine personalized instruction, consistent practice, and measurable progress in a supportive environment where students can build both skills and confidence.
